"I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse."
—Walt Disney, 1954.
The first of Disney's animated shorts was created in 1928 featuring Walt Disney's iconic Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse was created after the replacement of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald was an early character created for Charles Mintz of Universal Studios. Due to contractual disagreements and Universal Studios owned the rights to Oswald, Disney separated from the company and began his own studio.
Together with Ub Iwerks, Les Clark, and Wilfred Jackson, they began working on the designs for a new character. Mickey Mouse was inspired by Walt Disney's pet mouse he had as a child. Originally, Walt Disney named him Morimer Mouse, which was then later changed to Mickey Mouse.
The animated shorts became so popular, Disney expanded it to include other characters, such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie Mouse, Chip and Dale, etc. Mickey Mouse, however, still remains as Disney's iconic representation of the company.
All of these pieces are original vintage production cels from the 1928 - 1967 Disney animated shorts. There are no reproductions, limited editions, or sericels. All of my artwork is 100% original production.
